I've been asked several times now, did I write this book as a Covid-19 project? In truth I wrote this story years ago for my daughter. I was noticing she seemed more and more afraid to try things, afraid to fail things is maybe more accurate. And honestly she was reminding me of myself. I didn't want her to miss out on things because she was afraid to try, and hence the birth of the story. It was so important that Little Frog not only try, but fail. I wanted her (and all who read it) to understand that failure is not the end, but the beginning.
When I wrote the story I didn't really know it was about Growth Mindset, because I had never even heard the term before. It wasn't until, years later, when I was working closely with our school counselor that I had the idea to read the story during a Guidance class I was subbing for. I read it to her, and her response was overwhelming. She told me, "It was the best Growth Mindset book, and I had to get it published!"
In the spirit of helping kids transition from a "Fixed Mindset" to a "Growth Mindset" I've created a few lesson plans found below that, with some tweaking, can be used in a classroom setting or at home. You can also find some worksheets under the Activities Section of this website.
